Has anyone experienced ver 11 running extremely slow all of a sudden. I never had an issue before but now even typing is taking forever. It’s even affecting other programs. The file is small and simple. Could this be a corrupted pref or something else that can be simply fixed?
If it also affects other programs I would worry more about some kind of malware that tries to use your computer for example for mining crypto. Since that really slows down everything and simply tries to use all computer resources for the mining.
I personally like ESET as anti-a-lot tool and they have a free one-time scanner you can download at: ESET Online Scanner | ESET to check if something is wrong. Will take a time but if things slow down suddenly I get suspicious.
Kaspersky and McAfee also have such scanners you can just run and don’t have to install. I use ESET mostly because it doesn’t give much false positives, that’s when it tags something as virus while it’s actually not. The default Windows Security might also good enough.
The scanning will take a while depending on the amount of drives and speed of the computer but I would like to be sure it’s not malware causing it. The reason you notice maybe using KS is because KS is already a CPU intensive program.
Hi John! I’ll admit - Oscar’s feedback is truly accurate. Not just on this post - if you see feedback from Oscar it is quite literally the best practice every time. @oscar.rottink - you’re awesome and we are quite grateful every time we see a post.
With that being said - maybe I can help drill down. Are you on PC or Mac? It will ultimately come down to checking. the CPU usage and determining what is eating resources. If everything looks OK - it may be a more advanced scene; however if you’re running into consistent issues - I would like to echo Oscar’s suggestion: most likely it’s an issue of CPU resource allocation that needs to be addressed. I am happy to run benchmarks for you on my end if you can share a scene.
Thanks much Oscar I’ll check ESET out!
Hi Jordan,
I’m on a Mac Pro I’ll send you a file tomorrow am.
Thanks
@jordan.doane, thanks! I hope people also tell me if I’m wrong, for me trying to figure issues out of others is also a great way to lear and I’d like to help if I’ve some time, I know how frustrating it can be if you’re on a deadline and things don’t work like they should.
@john.mierisch.1, well if you’re on a Mac I don’t think the malware is a problem although it is possible it’s way less common. Like Jordan says, it’s good to monitor what is actually using the resources. On Windows you’ve task manager where you can easily see what program is using a lot of CPU. It’s been a while I was on a Mac but I think it’s called Activity Monitor.
It could also be possible your scene is taking so much memory of your system other programs need to swap to ‘virtual’ memory which basically is space on a HDD and much slower than actual RAM. I’ve actually had that before as well when I was baking a GLB with KS and it went from a few GB to 48GB of memory usage.
Hi Jordan,
I tried to upload a file but it wont accept a bip format.
